Memorial of Robert Jakoubek
60 Years of the Weimaraner Breeders Club
In 2026, the Weimaraner Breeders Club will commemorate a signifcant milestone – 60 years since its foundation. Since 1966, when the club was established in Prague, KCHVO has become a stable and respected part of Czech as well as international cynology. Throughout its existence, the club’s main mission has been the protection and development of the Weimaraner as a healthy, mentally balanced and versatile hunting dog, in accordance with the FCI breed standard and the traditions of practical hunting.
Sixty years of continuous work by many generations of breeders, handlers and breed enthusiasts have brought results of which the club can rightfully be proud. Through controlled breeding under expert guidance, it has been possible not only to stabilize and further develop the Weimaraner’s exterior, but above all to preserve and strengthen its innate working abilities, which form the very foundation of the breed’s identity.
An integral part of the 60th anniversary celebrations will be the International Versatile Working Trials for Weimaraners – the VI Robert Jakoubek Memorial, held in honour of the first chairman of KCHVO and a key figure who significantly contributed to the formation of the club and the development of Weimaraner breeding in the Czech Republic. These trials represent the ultimate test of the Weimaraner’s working qualities in the field, forest and water, while also serving as a dignified reminder of the breed’s versatility and practical value in hunting.
Another important element of the anniversary programme will be the Special Club Show, offering an overview of the current breeding standard of the breed, an opportunity for breeders from the Czech Republic and abroad to meet, and a platform for expert conformation evaluation, including assessments by international judges. Traditionally, the club show is not only a major breeding event, but also a social gathering for everyone who holds the Weimaraner close to their heart.
Special significance will be added to this year’s celebrations by the fact that, as part of the anniversary programme, the Board of the International Weimaraner Club (IWK) will also convene. This meeting highlights the importance of KCHVO on the international stage and confirms the active involvement of the Czech club in cooperation on the development of the breed, particularly in the areas of health, breeding and the working use of Weimaraners across Europe.
The 60th anniversary celebrations are not merely a look back at the club’s rich history, but above all a reaffirmation of responsibility for the future of the breed. They express respect for the work of previous generations and, at the same time, a commitment to continue breeding the Weimaraner as a versatile, healthy and reliable hunting dog that retains its irreplaceable place in hunting and in the lives of its handlers even in modern times

The VI Robert Jakoubek Memorial takes place in the forests of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague in Kostelec nad Černými lesy, which rank among the most important university forest estates in the Czech Republic. The extensive Černokostelec forest complex has long been used for academic education, research and practical forestry and hunting management. It is characterised by a diverse forest structure, varied terrain and high-quality game populations. These conditions create an ideal environment for top-level versatile working trials, thoroughly testing the true working abilities of hunting dogs in natural surroundings.
The dominant landmark of the town is the Kostelec nad Černými lesy Château, whose history dates back to the 14th century. Originally a Gothic fortress, it was gradually rebuilt into a Renaissance and later a Baroque château. Since 1953, the château has been the seat of the Forests of the Czech University of Life Sciences, which manage extensive forest estates from this location and continue a long-standing tradition of forestry, hunting and responsible landscape stewardship.
The combination of the château’s historic setting, the professional background of the university forests and active hunting practice makes Kostelec nad Černými lesy an exceptionally dignified and authentic venue for the Robert Jakoubek Memorial – a competition that embodies tradition, expertise and respect for both the hunting dog and nature.
