Domestic dogs
Health and Genetics
- Full dentition and a scissor bite are required.
- Hip dysplasia screening is voluntary. If the owner chooses to have the dog examined, the examination may be carried out no earlier than at 15 months of age, and the overall result must be no worse than B/B.
Exterier / conformation requirements
- Exc. or V.G. on any club’s organised show
- Only a show rating awarded when the dog was at least 15 months old shall count towards fulfilment of the breeding requirements. If the dog is assessed more than once at a Club Show, the most recent rating shall be considered decisive and binding.
Work examination requirements – short-haired males
Male rated Excellent at a Club Show:
The dog must fulfil the requirements under points (a) and (b), or alternatively the requirement under point (c):
(a) Either:
- the Club Autumn Exam for Pointing Dogs completed with a 1st Prize classification, with minimum marks of 3 for search, 3 for pointing, 3 for nose and 2 for retrieving a duck from deep water; or
- a non-club Autumn Exam for Pointing Dogs completed with a 1st Prize classification, together with verification of hunting aptitude.
(b) Any additional hunting utility exam completed in any prize class, for example the Forest Exam for Pointing Dogs, the Blood Tracking Exam for Pointing Dogs or the Water Work Exam.
(c) Alternatively, the All-Round Exam for Pointing Dogs completed with at least a 3rd Prize classification, provided that the minimum marks specified under point (a) are achieved.
Male rated Very Good at a Club Show:
The All-Round Exam for Pointing Dogs must be completed with at least a 3rd Prize classification, provided that the minimum marks specified under point (a) are achieved.
Work examination requirements – short-haired females
Female rated Excellent at a Club Show:
The female must fulfil either the requirement under point (a) or the requirement under point (b):
(a) Either:
- the Club Autumn Exam for Pointing Dogs completed with a 2nd Prize classification, with minimum marks of 3 for search, 3 for pointing, 3 for nose and 2 for retrieving a duck from deep water; or
- a non-club Autumn Exam for Pointing Dogs completed with a 2nd Prize classification, together with verification of hunting aptitude.
(b) Alternatively, the All-Round Exam for Pointing Dogs completed with at least a 3rd Prize classification, provided that the minimum marks specified under point (a) are achieved.
Female rated Very Good at a Club Show:
The female must fulfil the requirements under points (a) and (b), or alternatively the requirement under point (c):

For both long-haired males and females rated Excellent or Very Good at a Club Show, the Autumn Exam for Pointing Dogs must be completed with at least a 2nd Prize classification.

Every five years, to mark the anniversary of the club’s founding, an All-Round Exam for Pointing Dogs is held.
